IHG doubles community impact support

IHG Hotels and Resorts is doubling down on its community impact support with the return of its annual Stay for Good campaign, which will run across 59 participating properties in Australia and New Zealand this September.

Under the program, IHG will donate $1 from every room night stayed on new and existing direct bookings to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest. The group notes that every dollar donated can provide two meals to people in need while also helping divert one kilogram of food waste from landfill.

This initiative builds on a partnership with OzHarvest that began in 2018, alongside a more recent collaboration with KiwiHarvest that started in 2023. IHG surpassed one million meals delivered to people in need in Australia earlier this year through these efforts.

The decision to restart the campaign comes as demand for food assistance rises. OzHarvest’s 2026 Frontline Report found that more than 350,000 people seek food support each month across the charities surveyed, with over 74,000 people being turned away monthly due to a lack of available food.

70% of frontline charities reported an increase in demand over the past year, while 36% of people seeking food relief are doing so for the first time.

Partnership Expands Beyond Campaigns

“Surpassing one million meals with OzHarvest this year was an important milestone for our partnership and a clear sign of what our hotels, colleagues and guests can achieve together,” said Matt Tripolone, Managing Director, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“Stay for Good gives our hotel network another opportunity to build on that impact. With demand for food relief continuing to grow, we’re proud to once again support the vital work of OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest throughout September and help make a meaningful difference in the communities where we operate,” Tripolone added.

Ronni Kahn, Founder and Visionary-in-Residence, OzHarvest, emphasized the growing need for support. “We can’t wait to see what the Stay For Good campaign achieves this year! Our recent Frontline report showed the need for food relief in Australia is continuing to rise, so it’s a fantastic partnership, and through IHG’s support we’ve been able to provide one million meals for people in need. At a time when more people are accessing food relief for the first time, the support of IHG is vital,” Kahn stated.

Support for OzHarvest extends beyond the September campaign and includes food rescue, fundraising, colleague volunteering, and assistance for the Nourish program, which helps young people facing barriers to education and employment gain hospitality training and life skills.
